Peter Pawloy
(1958 – 2024)

It is with great sadness and dismay that we announce the passing of our former partner Peter Pawloy far too soon on 31 December 2024. We have lost not only an internationally respected and highly esteemed patent attorney colleague, but also a close and loyal friend. His commitment and expertise in the field of intellectual property, in particular in the field of patents, have left a lasting impression on the professional world.

Peter Pawloy (born 1958) studied organic chemistry at the Technical University of Vienna (Dipl.-Ing.), then began training as a patent attorney and later obtained the Certificate in Intellectual Property (CIP) at Queen Mary and Westfield College, University of London. His career as an Austrian and European patent attorney was characterized by his in-depth expertise, particularly in the fields of organic and inorganic chemistry, pharmaceutics and process engineering.

He loved chemistry and this was evident throughout his work as a patent attorney, not only to us as colleagues but also to his clients in every second and every line of his work. During his 30-year career as a patent attorney, Peter represented his clients, with whom he often had a close and trusting personal relationship due to his engaging manner, in countless examination, opposition and appeal proceedings before the European and Austrian Patent Offices, as well as in disputes up to the Austrian Supreme Court; but he was also a consistently knowledgeable and creative advisor for all strategic and legal matters of his clients in the innovation process.

Internationally, Peter Pawloy dedicated his time and efforts as a volunteer for the International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (AIPPI). From 2018 to 2022, he served as Treasurer General of AIPPI and in this capacity was a member of the Bureau. He was awarded the Award of Merit for all his services; since 2023, he was also an honorary member of AIPPI.

Peter had decided to retire last year, mainly to finally spend more time with his beloved family. However, in his well-deserved retirement, Peter wanted to devote himself not only to his family, but also to his numerous passions, for which he had not yet found enough time during his intensive professional career: traveling, sailing, swimming, diving and riding his numerous motorcycles, some of which he had just purchased and added to his collection for his retirement, with his many friends.

His death is all the more tragic for all of us, especially for his family, to whom we express our deepest condolences at this difficult time. We will miss him very much, but we will never forget him through our memories of this wonderful and deeply warm-hearted person.
